CDAS Lite Storage and Retrieval System

CDAS Lite Components:

CDAS Lite uses native Unix filesystems and provides the Systems Administrator an intuitive graphical user interface to control CDAS features, such as to restrict access to certain volumes, manage usage based on product licenses, or gather statistics on usage. CDAS Lite is a member of the CDAS family and offers a growth path to configurations containing up to 49 CD-ROM drives in an array, up to 7 jukeboxes (240 CD-ROM disc each) and more than 1TB of magnetic caching disk without having to replace client software.

And, when your storage strategy calls for CD-ROM jukeboxes, you can upgrade to full CDAS without any change to your client software!

  All CDAS products run on Sun Microsystems servers and offer all the reliability and functionality of Unix. CDAS was develped around Unix because it is a reliable, mature, open and flexible system. Sun has one of the best-supported, most stable versions of Unix commercially available. Add to that our years of expertise in automated data storage and retrieval (beginning with 8mm tape jukeboxes in 1987) and you've got an unbeatable combination of support and dependability!

• Compatibility
  Because we use standard "commercial off-the-shelf" (COTS) system software and hardware, CDAS Lite coexists happily with your other software products. No more worrying about incompatible proprietary file systems!

• Connectivity
  If you have a mixed (heterogenous) network environment, all of your clients can retrieve their data from CDAS Lite. Whether you use Novell NetWare (IPX/SPX), Microsoft Network (DOS or Windows), Unix, MacOS, OS/2 or VAX VMS clients running TCP/IP, there is a connectivity solution for you!

• Standard file systems
  CDAS Lite, like all CDAS products, uses only standard Unix and CD-ROM file systems. This assures that your data is always accessible, whether it's stored in ISO9660, RRIP, PhotoCD or High Sierra CD-ROM format.

• Extensible
  Storing and retrieving data from CD-ROMs is just the beginning with CDAS Lite! Other options may be installed to extend your data management system, including CDAS products for the World Wide Web such as:
  • CDAS/WEB-PCD adds support for browsing Kodak PhotoCDs and downloading images from your NCSA or Netscape Web Server running CDAS or CDAS Lite.
  • CDAS/WEB-GS extends the functionality of your NCSA or Netscape Web Server, allowing clients to "browse" your CD-ROM library.
